Much before the wave of menstrual hygiene took the nation by storm with the release of Bollywood movie PadMan, we ventured into this field by making a difference in lives of hundreds of rural women in Madhya Pradesh. Fighting against all odds and addressing issues of unaffordability and social taboos, through our awareness building programmes we conducted sessions in schools and colleges located in Barwani district. All our research proved to be fruitful when we learnt about affordable sanitary napkins manufactured by a Chinese brand. We made sanitary napkins available to attendees of our awareness sessions as well as localities of a particular area with the aim of spreading awareness about their benefits and making women habitual users.
To economize on costs front, we resorted to procuring unpackaged sanitary napkins from dealers of China based company in Indore and allotted consignments to local women for packaging such that it also provides them employment. Further, minimizing transportation costs, we relied upon local people for getting the consignment whenever they travel to the Indore or through public conveyances including buses and taxis.
Our campaigns have benefitted hundreds of women covering an ambit of 25 kms from Barwani. With an investment of Rs 3 lakhs till date, we aim at reaching out to many more villages and make a difference in their lives.
